Revolutionary changes in the molecular biology and taxonomy of most fungal groups had resulted in the tremendous changes of numerous names and classification including quarantine pests.Sporothrix schenckii was regarded as the causative agent of sporotrichosis in China, which however, represented a complex comprising six species. The causal agent of sporotrichosis in China had been proved to be S.globosa and S.schenckii in several independent studies.Other species in the complex had not been discovered in China.Since these species present different characters on virulence and medicine sensitivity,it is a necessity to enhance the monitoring and preventing of these species from entering the country.

Invasive infections caused by filamentous fungi have been increasing in recent years.Accurate identification of filamentous fungi isolates has important role in clinical treatment of filamentous fungi infections owing to the great variety of antifungal susceptibility profiles among different species of those microorganisms.Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) has been revealed to be an emerging technology in the field of microbe identification and performed outstandingly in bacteria and yeasts identification. The performance of this novel technology in filamentous fungi identification, however, remained inferior and less-employed than that in bacteria and yeasts identification. This paper reviews some representative research aiming on working this dilemma out in the global and the remarkable developments obtained during this process.
