Microsporum canis infection spreading from a cat to a girl and from the girl to her mother: two case reports

Abstract:

To report two rare cases in which a girl acquired tinea kerion due to a single con-tact from a cat and her mother also acquired tinea corporis due to close contact with her. The girl was presenting multiple abscess of the occipital scalp for 12 days and her pregnant mother was pr-esenting a single erythema and itching of the right waist for 2 days. Samples collected at the infec-ted area were identified as Microsporum canis by direct microscopic examination,fungal culture and molecular identification. The girl was cured by the treatment of orally taking terbinafine and prednisone in combination with external application of ketoconazole lotion for 6 weeks. Her mot-her was cured by external application of ketoconazole lotion and bifonazole ointment for 3 weeks.
